John Houck of Morphosis Architects created the following studies. A single operation, in this case the boolean difference, was chosen along with two formal systems: one large solid and a parameterized set of smaller shapes that act as the cuts into this larger body. Software was written to allow for the interaction of these two systems to be simulated using a variety of boolean cut sets. Here we present five of these models and show the wide variety of spatial and formal characteristics that are possible from these relatively simple systems and operations.
